The Bombers are a big part of our identity and history, so the city ought to support them to some extent.
Whether $7,500 in reduced fees is the figure warranted may be debatable, but for me it’s a non-starter to say that because many residents don’t go to the games, the city shouldn’t sponsor the team.
Look at the team’s overall profitability, as well as the revenue it brings into town. Businesses benefit from having the team here, and the sense of pride people take in their Bombers is worth something.
I don’t think $7,500 is out of line with the benefits from having the Bombers.

To attract new people to our community and keep the ones we have, it becomes essential to provide them with an array of recreational outlets.
Though not everyone is sports-minded, one cannot dispute that hockey has played a large part in who we are as a community.
In the hockey world, Flin Flon is known throughout Canada and the US for its hockey and, in a sense, it has become our ambassador.
It is also true that a good segment of our young people enjoy the game and for that reason alone I think the city should continue its support.

I was surprised to hear of a 50 per cent increase in sponsorship of the Bombers in the form of reduced ice rental fees.
No one on council opposed it.
The recent tax hikes, some very large, will make many question a 50 per cent higher subsidy for the Bombers.
The total sponsorship package is $7,500, not a large sum. I will still support the Bombers because I think they are a valuable asset to our town. Good luck in 2014-15.
