What do YOU think?

What should be the first priority for Flin Flon’s new city council and school board?

Trevor Miller
The first priority has to be working out how to raise the community’s portion of the ER upgrades at the hospital. This project will benefit the region for years to come. It’s important we step up as a community and see that it gets done.
Council also needs to focus on the seriously strained relationship between the city and area cabin owners. Something needs to be done to rebuild some of those bridges.
Tying into the hospital expansion, this is the kind of thing the cottagers can see has real value for them, and making appeals to shared benefits rather than threats of annexation could go a long way.

When there are so many voter concerns out there, determining what the first priority for the city and school board should be will be tough. Striking a balance between all the wants and the needs will take careful planning.
Certainly, one of the first priorities should be to get some real dialogue going with our provincial government and hopefully nail them down to some honest financial commitments for our city. Ratepayers have been tapped out over the last few years and are looking for some light at the end of the tunnel.
Lastly, more transparency when spending our tax dollars may be a good idea.

I would like them to formulate a plan that will allow the city and school division to operate in the black.
Our dwindling population will not be able to offer the services that we have been accustomed to. Schools and public buildings may have to be closed or restructured.
Priorities must be set allowing for unknown recurrences such as we had with so many broken water lines last winter.
The trustees / councillors should be spending money like it comes out of their own pocket, something that has not always been done. They must question and research all items with a price tag attached.
