What do YOU think?

Creighton is receiving $400,000 from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, to be spent on community projects. What do you think?

Trevor Miller
It’s pretty clearly an open attempt to buy some goodwill from the community for an industry with some high hurdles to clear in public perception.
It’s impossible to think decision-makers raised with the DEW line, Mutually Assured Destruction and “duck and cover” drills are going to read the word “nuclear” in a neutral light, regardless of the context, so it’s no surprise the energy industry feels the need to boost public opinion any way they can.
In practical terms, I’m glad they’re doing this instead of plastering the area with billboards and mailers. At least the money offered can do some long-term good for the community.

Having lived in a one-industry town all my life, I welcome any ideas that could secure economic stability for Creighton and area.
The nuclear waste disposal project is light years away from becoming any kind of a reality and should be viewed as a possibility only.
Being proactive in encouraging a second major industry would not be a bad idea. Creighton has shown that she is indeed proactive in this regard and deserves this cheque for $400,000, presented to them by the NWMO.
Creighton’s  good leadership has demonstrated that careful thought will be given, on where to spend the funds. Good work, Creighton.

A nice little bribe goes a long ways. Creighton is getting all the attention, but the nuclear waste from Ontario will likely pass through Flin Flon, yet it gets nothing.
The Saskatchewan government appears opposed to this project, yet Creighton moves closer to the top of the list.
Desperate mining communities may have to consider this ‘reverse mining’ to survive, at least in the short run. A multibillion-dollar investment will be difficult to refuse.
