I think this plan could be of long-term benefit to the whole region, and not just a means to alleviate some budgetary pressures on Flin Flon.
As a trade-off, user fees at facilities could be dropped to offset potential increases in taxes.
Spreading the costs over a larger group means everyone pays a small amount rather than a few paying a lot.
It also has the benefit of paying for facilities that people from all three communities use, avoiding closures that would affect everyone.
Working out the details will be a challenge, but it’s worth examining at the very least.

As a ratepayer of Flin Flon, I would appreciate any help we can get in the hopes of reducing the cost of operating our rec facilities.
However, all facilities are far from new and could well require major repairs as time progresses. That being the case, I feel that this kind of expense should not be included in the divvying up of cost.
A full assessment as to the condition of all facilities might be in order, before discussions on this proposal go any further. Public input should also be a must.

I do not think the other communities will go for this proposal. Flin Flon will likely gain, they will not. There is nothing that would force them to share operating costs and they can argue that they have facilities of their own.
User fees seem to be a fair compromise when they can be implemented, as with the Aqua Centre and library.
However this is not always possible with other multi-purpose locations such as the Whitney Forum and Community Hall.
A level playing field for this area is going to be very difficult to make.
