Dear Editor,
I read with some amusement our MLA’s comments on CBC today (Thursday, Oct. 30), where he is very publicly telling us that he is urging Premier Selinger to resign, since it was the premier who brought in the wildly unpopular provincial sales tax increase.
The reason that I say amusement is because of the over-optimism of Mr. Pettersen.
Make no mistake, Mr. Pettersen – many of the public is aware that this illegal tax increase was a full government effort!
This was not something inflicted on the electorate by a premier running amok, on his own. The entire government is responsible for this.
I find myself in the very odd position of agreeing with the increase in the sales tax – I recognize the enormous expenditures that happened. What frosts me is the breaking of this government’s own laws in order to raise the tax rate.
I think that despite Mr. Pettersen’s attempt to convince us of Mr. Selinger’s guilt for this unpopular action, most people are going to understand that this was an entire government effort. I am somewhat curious – did Mr. Pettersen vote against this tax increase?
