Paving the road out to Bakers Narrows is something that’s been a long time coming, and I can’t think of anything our city needs more that has a $20-million price tag on it.
Diagnostic equipment or upgrades at the hospital would be a solid second place, but in terms of necessary infrastructure, improving the road will serve a double purpose of increased safety for drivers as well as enabling the road to stand up to the wear and tear of ore trucks using it on a regular basis.

Though I would rather have seen some government money directed towards city roads, we should not look a “gift horse in the mouth.”
It has been a long while since significant monies were spent on highway improvement between Bakers Narrows and Flin Flon, so an expenditure of $20M would be most welcome.
With Lalor and Reed mines soon to come on stream, safe driving conditions for everyone could be compromised if the highway is not upgraded to handle the increased flow of traffic from ore trucks and other service vehicles.
In the meantime, I hope the City will continue to  apply for grant funding to further assist them in their efforts to improve local roads.

Twenty million dollars for a 10-minute ride works out to $2 million per minute. That should give us a very nice ride.
This is not the worst highway in Manitoba,  but a promise is a promise. Too bad we couldn’t use the same money to upgrade our roads and infrastructure in city limits, but budgets do not work that way.
The increase in ore truck traffic from Snow Lake should justify the heavy price tag for a safer, smoother road. Thank you, Manitoba.
