My son enters kindergarten next year, and I would love this option.

Maybe it’s hard for some kids to adjust, but for children in full-time daycare, it would be little or no adjustment. In fact, breaking up his day between the two would be more disruptive for us, and it’s hard to see how teachers could fit more than a couple short lessons in.

With the number of kids in full-time daycare today, it seems the problem of children being too tired would be minimal and easily solved with a nap break. For me, driving across town two to three times a day seems more disruptive than a 30-minute nap.

I realize that staying home to rear children is not always an option for many, and that an all-day kindergarten would solve a large part of the problems associated with having to find and fund daycare services.

However, would kindergarten best serve the needs of the children? Children are very impressionable and at four and five, even
more so.

Should all-day kindergarten become a reality, I hope children are fortunate enough to have sensitive, caring teachers who in essence will take the place of the parent. I feel that the school divisions should maintain the status quo in this instance.

I agree that full-time kindergarten is too much for these little ones. Kindergarten is not compulsory, so why make it full-time? It is not a babysitting service, but I suspect that is why some would want it.

At an estimated cost of $190,000 a year for Flin Flon, I do not think local taxpayers should be asked to pay, as the price tag is borne locally.

Many former students such as myself were never offered kindergarten and I don’t think it slowed our progress at all. There are many studies that do not think it is necessary.
