A local high school curling team, consisting of Jessica Longpre (skip), Kelsey Henshaw Morrell (3rd), Polina Gapotiy (2nd) and Mercedes Longpre (lead), played the part of defending champions on the weekend of Feb. 6.

It happened at the Manitoba High School Athletic Association Zone 11 Championship held in The Pas.

Over two days of competition, against three other teams, the JHK Tigers won four out of five games to take home the zone pennant for the 2014-15 school year.

Stealing points to win in several of the games they participated in, the JH Kerr School Tigers, bested two teams from The Pas and a rival foursome from Flin Flon.

The single game they lost was against Flin Flon; however, the girls bounced back to better them in two out of the three games they played, the last being a 5-4 victory for the pennant.

The girls’ team will head to The Pas for this year’s Provincials, which will be held from February 26 to 28 at The Pas Curling Club.
