For those unaware, the 12th Biennial National Western Region Mine Rescue Competition will be held in Fernie, British Columbia, on September 11 and 12, 2015, and Hudbay will have a team in the running!
Hudbay’s 2014 Lalor mine rescue team won their berth in the competition by winning the provincial competition last year.
The team that won the 2014 provincials is made up of Captain Clint Parsons, No. 2 Man Adam Harrower, No. 3 Man Stephen Reid, No. 4 Man Bob Forsyth, Vice-Captain Aldon Kowalchuck and Director of Operations Dave Kendall.
A recent email from Parsons advised that the recently retired Kendall has agreed to put away the boat and come in off of the golf course for the fall competition.
Parsons also noted that he is currently making arrangements for transportation and accommodations for the trip.
Of note, the western regionals isn’t just a Canadian competition, as there are several American teams that also attend and compete as well as several professional mine rescue teams that are employed strictly in a mine rescue capacity.
