My Take on Snow Lake: Marking 40 years of good work

Numerous people gathered on the afternoon of Friday, June 5 for the Annual Balsam Street Event.

Numerous people gathered on the afternoon of Friday, June 5 for the Annual Balsam Street Event.

They took time to browse the ‘Sidewalk Sale’ items, chow down on a hot dog, or grab a cup of coffee, during the Health Auxiliary/Second Glance-sponsored affair.

Along with the aforementioned, the Royal Bank, Snow Lake Pharmacy and Canada Post helped promote the occasion by providing provisions to all in attendance.

One further celebration took place during the sale marking of the 40th anniversary of the Snow Lake Hospital/Health Auxiliary.

To formalize the occasion, the original president, Mona Forsyth, cut a celebratory cake, and original members, Janice Becking, Sharon Stubbs and Beth Bunn helped Mona pass it out.

Prior to cutting the cake, current president Agnes Hornyak acknowledged the members from the group’s 1975 inception; noting that, along with the board at the time, the auxiliary spearheaded the new Health Centre that is situated across from the beach.

The Health Auxiliary has a total of 12 active members, 20 auxiliary members, and four life members.

The Auxiliary’s ‘Second Glance’ store raised a total of $800 from their sales on June 5; it will be donated in its entirety to Winnipeg’s Port in a Storm, which provides affordable lodging for medical patients and their families.

My Take on Snow Lake runs Fridays.
