The Snow Lake Fire Department has informed the town council that the department is interested in starting a Junior Firefighters Program in the community.
Fire Chief Cory Anaka noted in his report to the April 23 regular council meeting that he has talked with two other fire departments in Manitoba that have this program in place and both are doing well.
Anaka says the age of Fire Cadets ranges from 16 to 18. He says they would be trained on all tools and equipment used by the department, but would only be in attendance to assist with certain tasks and would not be out in hot zones.
In other news, the Chamber of Commerce saw strong numbers take in their two-day Trade Fair, held during the 28th and 29th of last month.
Both the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall and Wilfred T. Lipton Arena were put into use and venders ranging from car dealerships to an outlet merchandising candy floss and fudge drew potential customers to the local venues.
