During the afternoon of Oct. 20, Snow Lakers lined up for a glimpse of, and perhaps a chance to touch, the most prized possession in all of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Whether folks cheered for the Big Blue, were members of Rider Nation or supporters of the Johnny-come-lately RedBlacks; on this day everyone was a fan of the Grey Cup.
The Cup arrived in Snow Lake at 11:30 am on the 20th and the celebration began in the Lawrie Marsh Community Hall immediately thereafter.
Hudbay supplied lunch for the event and former Snow Laker Richard Trudeau, who is Hudbay’s Flin Flon and Snow Lake mines manager, and lodge owner Greg Carswell took up duties behind the grill.
Folks ate in the hall and local organizer (Mayor) Kim Stephen had the venue and help in place to handle the crowd that was over 300 this day.
Following lunch and some community time with the cup, Winnipeg Blue Bombers alumni Doug Brown, Brett McNeil and the Grey Cup entourage headed over to the JH Kerr School for further celebration!
My Take on Snow Lake is published on Fridays.
