The Snow Lake Curling Club’s Annual Elimination Draw and Glow Curling event took place on the evening of January 17 and from all indications it was - as usual - a well-attended and enjoyable event.
The evening kicked off with Glow Curling, where teams of two played a series of games prior to winners being crowned. The victors were picked on the number of wins and total points scored.
Glow curling is done with all the lights out and with glow sticks attached to the rocks and brooms. You and your opposition rifle two rocks down the ice, and the players at the other end whip them back. You play four ends, no one can sweep, and closest to the button counts.
There were three teams of winners in the ‘GlowSpiel’ – Ashton and Steve Deighton who pocketed $200 for first place; Janelle Grant and Jonathon Young took home $120 for second place; and Colleen Cairns and Shaylyn McAuley earned $80 for their third place effort.
Once the curling had finished the Elimination Draw got underway. Those winners were: 1st – Jenna Wiwcharuk-Roy, $100; 10th – Romeo and Keren Trudeau, $100; 15th – John Bartlett, $100; 25th – Esther Simpson, $200; 35th – Bob Meek, $100; 45th – Brenda Forsyth-Flamand, $100; 50th – Terry Hornyak, $200; 60th – Nick Norlock, $100; 75th – Lynn and Dave Smith, $200; 85th – Pam Wiwcharuk, $100; 90th – Davey Roberts, $100; 99th – Dennis St Jean, $100; 100th – Neil (Doc) Macleod, $1000!
There was one further draw before the formal part of the evening ended, the ‘Lucky Loser’ where all losing numbers are placed in drum and one is drawn. The winner was Todd Gray. A great time was enjoyed by all.
