Paris in the spring is supposed to be something to sing about. Poems are recited, movies are made and books written, on that particular city and that specific season. But, wow, throw in London and Rome, what an adventure! With their fundraising all done, and their goals having been met, it looks like all there is left for a select group of students from J.H. Kerr School to doÉ is pack their bags and head out on the trip of a lifetime. Fourteen students from the school, along with English teacher Joanne Bradley and chaperone Dave Roberts will leave Snow Lake during Spring Break 2008 on a school sponsored trip they have been fundraising for since September of 2006. Prior to that departure, they put on their final fundraiser; an extremely well attended dinner theater, in the Lawrie Marsh Hall on the evening of February 9. Close to 200 people showed up for the exceptional meal and the interesting and humorous entertainment that followed. Once people had assembled in the hall, Joanne Bradley rose and welcomed everyone prior to providing a little background on the Euro trip and the fundraising initiatives that related to it. Before calling on the first tables to go up and partake in the buffet meal, Bradley also noted how appreciative the group was of the support the community has showed for their trip. The meal itself, prepared by the parents of the Euro trip students, was scrumptiousÉ turkey, cabbage rolls, perogies, meatballs, spuds, salads, you name it. Following supper, Bradley once again addressed the audience, imparting some information on the entertainment that was planned for the evening. She advised that the Euro trip students had been working on a play, The Princess Who WouldnÕt be Married, for the past three and a half weeks. With that, the lights went down and the play began. The Princess Who WouldnÕt be Married was a lighthearted medieval affair that featured the following in the acting roles: Christina Walker in the title role of the Princess, Brittany Ventura as her mother the Queen, Anthony Dupont as the King, Kim Beilman as the PrincessÕ lady in waiting, Morgan Cann as Prince AndreÕ Gaston Louis le Bon Bon, and Danny Roberts as Prince Morton of Winchester. All of the roles were very well acted; however, Christina WalkerÕs talent truly shone in the title role. Additionally, Anthony Dupont and Morgan CannÕs dry delivery and the adaptable timing of some humorous lines had people chortling in the aisles. It was very well done and greatly appreciated by all in attendance. After the closing curtain, Bradley introduced two gentlemen with guitars in tow. Danny Otto and Jean Guy Trudeau saddled up to the microphones, but not to sing only to play. ÒWeÕre too chicken to sing,Ó stated Otto. Regardless, they played four tunes sharing lead solos throughout. The songs were: Simple Man by Lynard Skynard, KnockinÕ on Heavens Door by Guns and Roses (Bob Dylan), Stupid Boy by Keith Urban, and Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton. That being the final measure of entertainment for the evening, the winners of a Penny Parade were announced and then the Euro Trip students all took to the stage. They thanked their sponsors, their parents, the community for their overwhelming support, but saved their combined special thanks for the teacher who put it all together and helped them bring the trip to fruition, Ms. Joanne Bradley. Asked how they did on their final fundraiser, Bradley stated, ÒVery wellÉ we will now be able to pay for our bus driver.Ó The Euro Trip will take place during Spring Break 2008, it will last for 10 days, and the group will spend approximately three days in each local, London, Rome, and Paris. The students going with Bradley and Roberts on the trip are: Kim Beilman, Morgan Cann, Jesse Drews, Anthony Dupont, Dana Kowalchuk, Amy Otto, Danny Otto, Brianne Richard, Danny Roberts, Judd Smith, Jean Guy Trudeau, Brittany Ventura, Christina Walker, and Megan Ward. My Take on Snow Lake runs Fridays.
