MP REPORT

“Investing in infrastructure”

Our government’s New Building Canada Plan provides an unprecedented investment into our nation’s infrastructure, amounting to $47 billion over 10 years.

The infrastructure projects created by the plan are already creating jobs, economic growth and productivity.

Federal commitment to small communities has never been stronger than under our Harper government.

The Gas Tax Fund is helping municipalities build and revitalize local public infrastructure. This fund, which represents the largest part of the New Building Canada Plan, has been extended, doubled and indexed by our government. We have also expanded its eligible project categories.

The creation, maintenance and refurbishment of vital infrastructure improves our communities while creating jobs and long-term prosperity.

Our Conservative government has a solid track record of supporting municipalities. The New Building Canada Fund dedicates two-thirds of its new funding to municipalities and their needs, providing vital funds to our northern Saskatchewan communities.

Since 2006, the New Building Canada Fund has supported over 43,000 projects across the country.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities has been a key partner in the administration of the fund and is the only national organization that was invited to every consultation round table held across the country in 2012. They have played an active role in shaping the investments made by the New Building Canada Fund.

By providing stable, predictable funding to municipalities, we are enabling these municipalities to move forward with projects confidently, knowing the money will be there to support vital infrastructure.

Thanks to our government’s strong backing of municipalities, we are ensuring that communities here in Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River have the roads and community infrastructure to help our businesses, farmers and ranchers grow and succeed, as well as the recreational facilities our towns need to thrive.

Through our commitment, we are creating the conditions for northern Saskatchewan communities to enjoy a high standard of living, new economic opportunities and a safe, healthy environment.
