Dear Editor,
I was surprised to read the editorial suggesting it doesn’t matter if a candidate is from our area (“Southern rep not a deal-breaker,” Local Angle, Oct. 9).
I disagree.
This is the first time that I have ever seen two of the three major parties running candidates in our riding that don’t live here. One of them, Liberal Rebecca Chartrand, has never lived in the riding.
The last time we had an MP who didn’t live in the riding, it was a Liberal, Tina Keeper, who was virtually invisible and lasted only one term.
I think it does make a difference if you are from our area. Niki Ashton, who is from our area, has been very visible. She has spoken out on our issues time and time again. She knows our concerns because she is from here.
On Oct. 19, I am sure people will support Niki Ashton – “from our North for our North” – over Rebecca Chartrand, who should be running on the slogan “just visiting”!
Make sure you get out and vote.
