Dear Editor,
The Lions Handi-van service has been part of our community and area for over 25 years.
I am and have been a volunteer handi-van driver, beginning in 2009. Now we are extremely short of drivers.
We are trying different ways to accommodate drivers. For example, we split weeks, driving two or three days a week instead of a complete week. With more drivers, we may only have to drive three to five days every four, six or eight weeks.
As volunteer drivers, providing voluntary service, a regular driver’s licence is all that is required.
Right now, it looks like we may not be able to continue providing continuous service to the community and area.
Over the years, different individuals have said to me, “Rose-Marie, I could never drive that van.” I always say, “There is nothing to it. If I can drive the van, you can drive the van. We need you – this service needs you.”
Anyone who wants to volunteer can contact Laverne Hinzman at 306-688-3249 or 306-680-9689, or Rick Hurst at 204-687-7649 or
204-271-2233.
