Letter to the Editor: Flin Flon Station Museum display worth preserving

Dear Editor, Please allow me space to state my opinion on the status of the military display at the Flin Flon Station Museum.

Dear Editor,

Please allow me space to state my opinion on the status of the military display at the Flin Flon Station Museum. The current board of directors have made every effort to render our display irrelevant by a ridiculous reduction in display space, after requesting only a few years ago that we establish the collection of artifacts in Remembrance.

Our Flin Flon reserve army veterans distinguished themselves for over 55 years – not only by serving locally and within Canada, but by augmenting the Canadian Army in the Second World War, Korea, UN, Germany and Bosnia. Hundreds of others went on to careers in the regular armed forces after receiving initial training in Flin Flon.

The destruction of our display is akin to being slapped in the face by the leadership at the Flin Flon Station Museum. Nonetheless, we stand proud.

I have been directly involved with “negotiations” to stop this pitiful clownery and preserve our proud past, and am appalled by the lack of knowledge and disrespect of the board regarding the rich history of the military in our city.

Rest assured that although the armoury may be gone – we who remain and have served with

21 Field Engineer Squadron are not, nor will we be, silenced.

Anyone who would like to discuss this matter further may call me at 204-687-3669 or Frank Gira at 204-687-7315.
