Dear Editor,

Isn’t it nice to see Creighton town council and the mayor working for the public. The new speed limit around the school is very worthwhile, as long as the law enforcers are out there. Yes, let’s all slow down.

Then there’s the new walking path from Creighton to Flin Flon. Yes, a few people use the path daily, some days nobody. Some people are complaining about ATVs using the path, so council bans all ATVs and snowmobiles from driving on it.

People on Elander Avenue have complained for a few years about ATVs and snowmobiles driving down Elander. Kids under 14 years old, two and three kids on an ATV – some with no helmets.

Elander has always got heavy traffic and kids and adults walking steady up and down this street. It is also a street for 75- to 95-year-old seniors who like quietness, not loud vehicles (with no mufflers) riding up and down.

We need a sign, eight by eight feet, that says this is a seniors’ street. It would say: “Quiet Zone: No Loud Vehicles, No ATVs, Snowmobiles.”

The street should also have a speed limit of
30 kilometres an hour, and speed bumps.

Also, the town should hire a bylaw enforcement officer to attend to traffic bylaws. The RCMP have no time for that. Other towns our size have bylaw officers. Should Creighton be different? We the public don’t think so.
