Dear Sir, Please allow me space in your paper to comment on the "Roger's Right Corner" article entitled "Supporting the Armed Forces," published in your March 3 edition. Mr. Cathcart's article on the subject quickly degrades into the Hollywood version of the accomplishments of the American Armed Forces, while ignoring the Canadian and British contributions. I quote the article: "In the last century they (American Armed Forces) liberated France twice, defeated Germany twice, saved Britain's bacon..." Nonsense! Let's look at World War II, for example. Perhaps the term "allies" should be noted. Canadian soldiers distinguished themselves in the liberation of France involving operations such as Normandy, Caen and Falaise. As to the USA defeating Germany twice and saving Britain's bacon, I believe that Canada took up the torch with England and other Commonwealth nations against the tyranny of of Nazi Germany in September of 1939. The USA stalled until the aftermath of December 7, 1941. The Canadian Armed Forces made a tremendous contribution fighting alongside Great Britain on the ground, in the air and on the seas. (Over a million enlisted; 45,000 killed; 55,000 wounded or injured). Mr. Cathcart, an Armed Force thrives on its history and battle honours. You might start your campaign to support the Canadian Armed Forces by acknowledging their glorious past in wars and peacekeeping Ñ in the cause of freedom. - Morley G. Naylor
