Dear Editor, Re: Bev Desjarlais Ð Independent MP As a former Manitoban and fellow MP with Bev Desjarlais for the past eight years, I'm deeply disappointed that she lost the NDP nomination for the Churchill Riding. Desjarlais believes that although her loss was due to other reasons, her opposition to same-sex marriage was the catalyst for the nomination battle. If so, an outstanding parliamentarian and servant of all the residents of the constituency was cast aside by a majority of party members because she voted her conscience differently from the NDP policy on a single issue. In the upcoming elections, I hope that many normally NDP supporters will join with other residents to re-elect her as an independent Ð as was done for the late Chuck Cadman in Surrey. She is too good to lose. Ð Hon. David Kilgour Independent M.P. Edmonton-Mill Woods-Beaumont
