Dear Editor, The ongoing discussion that has been intriguing most people in our communities is that of Creighton deciding to have its own high school. Many individuals have strong feelings for both sides of this coin. The fact that this is true is a positive nature for our communities. It is good for people to voice their beliefs, whatever they may be. It sparks debate which hopefully leads to communications and positive change. I was a student at Creighton and Hapnot and now instruct at Many Faces. I, as well as everyone, had some trying times. These times became learning experiences that I must say helped me become the person I am today. The reason I believe these experiences ended up being positive were because of the people that helped teach me. I have learned respect and knowledge in all three schools, not from being in the building but from the individuals that taught, and still do, teach there. For this reason, I believe that it is not the decision of Creighton to have its own high school that is important, it is the reaction of the parents, students and most of all the teachers and administrators of both divisions that will make this a negative or positive move for our communities. I hope that the staffs of all these schools keep in mind what is the most important thing, the development of their students. If this situation becomes too much of a competition for students, funding, and accolades we may all lose. My belief is not black and white but something different than what I have heard in the coffee shops, on the street, and even at my place of work. I believe that it is not this decision by Creighton to have its own high school that is important, but the opportunities it opens for all the high schools in our area to start working towards bettering themselves and providing more educational opportunities, both traditional and non-traditional, for the students. See 'Grow' P.# Con't from P.# I believe there is always room for improvement in all aspects of everyone's life. To look at this decision in a negative manner is going to breed just that, negativity. To look at it as an opportunity to grow, as a group of developing communities, can lead to new and creative ideas that may solve many of the problems we face as border communities. All three of our communities want the best for their students and that will only happen if people work together for this common goal. I know that I will work with those that choose to create a positive environment for our students to learn in. It is why I do what I do now: instruct a leadership program for high school students. The choice, of course, is up to each individual. Please remember, though, your life, and those around you, is a product of your choices. Yours in Education, Graham Garrett
