Editor: It is extremely hard to believe that any country's government would purposely want to make criminals out of several million of its law abiding citizens. That is exactly what the Canadian government did under the rule of ex-Prime Minister Jean Chretien. We were given an exact date to register our long guns (rifles, shotguns). These are tools of law abiding citizens who want to enjoy the out-of-doors and companionship of their hunting friends. I wonder, "how many real criminals registered their firearms?" We gun owners hope the Liberal government under the reins of Paul Martin would see through flaws of the gun registry law that is so poorly written that men of the law have a hard time deciphering it. This boondoggle of the newly retired Liberals under Chretien has so far nailed the taxpayers of this country $1 billion. If this poorly put together program is not revoked by Martin, our taxpayers will be looking at another billion dollars down the tube. This registration program was put on the books under the ruse of cutting down on crime when it is doing just the opposite. Criminals will have all the guns and we will be at their mercy. We need to change this set-up right smartly! With an election coming up it is time to write a note to Martin and tell him "unless this registry farce is ended he won't get your vote." Ð Steve Person
