There is a desperate need for long-term care here in Northern Saskatchewan, but when the budget came out recently I was not surprised at all to see that the need was ignored. There have been calls for building new long-term care beds in the North for years. In 2010, a report indicated that La Ronge needs three times as many long-term care beds as it currently has, and yet there's nothing for the community. Northern seniors are being forced to live many hours away from their families because there is no room for them near their home communities. The long distances mean many go without seeing family for months on end. The Sask. Party is refusing to give northern seniors what they deserve: respect and long-term care spaces closer to their families. I doubt Brad Wall would allow this to happen if there was a similar shortage of spaces in Swift Current. Barbara Blyth La Ronge, SK
