Dear Editor,
Troubling disclosures on what is going on with the NDP government’s use of CFS contract companies leaves Manitobans with serious doubts that high risk children are being properly cared for.
Tuesday’s announcement of a review into the services provided by private companies to the Minister of Family Services by the Minister’s own internal unit leaves me with little optimism. Little optimism, that with this much secrecy we will get to the bottom of what is happening. No optimism that quality of care to so many high risk children will improve any time soon.
On top of this, the Minister has delayed action on implementing the recommended changes from the Inquiry into the Death of Phoenix Sinclair until at least January 2015.
Her inaction leaves us wondering whether the safety of children is really a priority for this Minister or whether it is not even on her radar.
Former Minister of Family Services Jennifer Howard said in response to concerns about CFS and child welfare: “at some point better management also has to be part of the answer” (CBC News, Jan 30 2014).
How about now Minister Irvin-Ross?
