Dear Editor: I thought witnessing the birth of my nephew today was the greatest thing. Nothing could top it, but that is not the case. I had just left the hospital and thought I would stop and get a donut. It was a little before 4 p.m., and I had noticed an elderly man in the back alley. Shortly, I had seen an employee of the donut shop running after him. She handed him a bag of donuts, he thanked her, and you could hear the gratefulness in his voice. As she walked by me, she had mentioned that the poor man was eating from the garbage. She later took him a cup of coffee. When I got home I started thinking, I've only seen this act of kindness from my later uncle. He used to feed anybody who was hungry in The Pas. He was a stingy person when it came to money, but he would always share his home and food. He had a heart of gold. This act of hospitality has taught me a very valuable lesson. For you see, I may not have much, but I do have a warm bed to sleep in and food to eat, and there are people who don't. So we should learn to open our hearts, like my uncle and the Donut King did. Because the greatest reward would be knowing we helped someone less fortunate than us! Thank you Donut King for showing me there is still kindness out there. Ð Signed: Cyndi
