Two Communities Ð One Vision When I see our two communities, Creighton and Flin Flon, talking about having three high schools, I wonder about our lack of vision. Our communities are changing. HBM&S is downsizing, and Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire are in town. Some people feel negatively about this, but when I see that the largest retailer in the world has faith in our communities (when The Bay didn't), I realize that we need a new vision to go with these changes. We have to work together and it needs to be a win, win situation for everybody. We can work towards a sports centre with a wave pool, or have two paddling pools. We can work towards a regional hospital, or have two clinics and drive to The Pas for extra care. This fight can only be won if Creighton and Flin Flon communities work together. We all lose when we're not united. We've already lost government jobs to La Ronge, Thompson and The Pas because we haven't promoted ourselves as one community with a clear vision. I will always live in the Creighton, Flin Flon area, and I take pride in the people in our communities. When I see the debate over the high schools, I wonder what will happen to our communities in the future? Creighton has been treated unfairly. Find a solution. What about a regional high school that we can all be proud of, that would include not only Flin Flon, Creighton areas, but also surrounding areas Ð like the example of Swan Valley Regional High School. This would create more opportunities and better facilities for everyone. Board members, politicians, get a vision. Creighton and Flin Flon are evolving and we need to make sure that we're heading in the right direction. This high school decision is a lot bigger than many think it is. Sincerely, Clarence Pettersen
