Trevor Miller I think City Council has some tough challenges facing it regarding our community's future and its ability to provide the level of services we've come to expect, and I don't envy them their position. That being said, the solutions to these issues can only come through dealing with one another as neighbors and family, and the adversarial, confrontational tone that has been taken in these matters is only going to lead to hurt feelings and bad results for everyone. That's not to say that all of the blame lies with Council, but they have been elected as our local leaders, and leading is done by example, so they have to hold themselves to a higher standard. Ken Mansell Maybe, however, they are not avoiding issues that need to be addressed. Former mayor Nazir Ahmad brought up the annexation issue many years ago, without any success. I think payment must be made for services used but annexation may be the most difficult route. A flat tax for police and fire protection in Town sounds fair enough. The Pump outs in Channing seem reasonable also. The fire protection proposal in Manitoba cottage country by Creighton Fire dept. is kind of sneaky. I don't think it is ethical. However, $300 per cottage is way higher than other areas are paying. Try $100, it may work. Denny Hyndman I don't believe that any council member intends to divide the community. Flin Flon has it's share of strong personalities and overall council should be lauded for their commitment. Our main industry is no longer able to offer employment on the same scale as before and so our population is down. Our buildings are grandfathered and infrastructures above and below ground need attention _ but as long as we call each other local we will continue to support the right measures in the end. Our community is highly skilled at fundraising efforts for example, we need to focus on unity more than ever.
