If anything, Mr. Pettersen’s public stand makes him a more effective representative of his constituents, which is his primary job in the legislature.

The people of his riding aren’t pleased with the premier’s performance or leadership, so he has taken that sentiment and made it known. What more could we ask for in our MLA than to speak up for us when party leadership is ineffective and unpopular?

Maybe he could have worked some extra money for the riding out of the premier by playing nice and keeping his mouth shut, but that’s not what I’m looking for in my elected representative, and I don’t think it’s what Flin Flonners want either.

Doreen Murray

The role of our MLA is to represent the people of the Flin Flon constituency. It is in caucus meetings that Mr. Pettersen is afforded the opportunity to bring forward any problems or concerns constituents may have.

Though the position of backbencher can be restrictive in some aspects, his role is important in that he represents our voice in government. Mr. Selinger, by barring our MLA from caucus meetings and government decision making, has in effect barred the people of this constituency from fair and effective representation. What is he thinking!

No government can hope to win the support of ratepayers utilizing strong-arm tactics of this nature.

Ken Mansell

When you take part in an unsuccessful mutiny, the
captain is going to punish those involved to some extent.

However, Mr. Selinger cannot afford to offend this Flin Flon riding for very long. It has been a safe seat for many years.

Clarence Pettersen is an enthusiastic, concerned MLA who shares the very
real concern about getting this party re-elected under Mr. Selinger’s leadership.

A mutiny is the result of much discontent in the party. A fair and open leadership race is slated now for March; too bad the
premier is trying his best to avoid a level playing field by not resigning well before.

Ken Mansell is a retired
Flin Flonner.
