Trevor Miller A few things do come to mind where overlapping services could possibly be shared between our three communities. The first one that occurred to me was animal control; between us, we could share the cost of a full-time animal control officer to deal with the numbers of stray dogs and cats roaming around before we have to start talking about dog shoots here the way other communities are agonizing over right now. In addition, perhaps there is some surplus/short capacity in our respective garbage collection and snow removal services that could be used to increase efficiencies and remove possible redundancies. Ken Mansell This will be nearly impossible because of the border. Provincial governments do not like spending in another province. Health care in our region is an exception. Two hospitals would be too expensive. Sharing fire protection and emergency rescue equipment should be possible. Not very long ago, Creighton and Denare sent all high school students to Hapnot Collegiate. This was working well until the Creighton School Board decided to expand to a K-12 facility. A high school needs lots of students for more choices and economies of scale. Too late now, too bad. One RCMP depot for the area would probably save money. Denny Hyndman Hmmm, a toughie. One would think being border communities, funding assistance would be twice as available, but not so. Recently, Flin Flon's policing was outsourced to Creighton's RCMP building because of repairs needed to Flin Flon's station. Maybe this system could become standard _Êone police, one fire station for all areas? I really loved the suggestion via Letter to Editor of making an investment to employ a qualified community development planner. I know there has been disappointment before because of overlapping community events producing poorer-than-expected turnouts, but I'm not 100 per cent sure how many tax dollars were utilized in those instances.
