Flin Flon Branch No. 73 of the Royal Canadian Legion extends an open invitation to everyone to participate in this year’s Remembrance Day parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
We have had great turnouts in the last few years, and we hope the trend continues.
Marchers will join the standard group of RCMP, Legion Colour Party, Legion members and all former Armed Forces personnel, Army Cadets, Rangers, Pathfinders, Guides, Brownies and Sparks.
The Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach area is widely recognized for the exceptional turnout at the Community Hall service, and we take pride in seeing those same large numbers reflected in our parade.
Marchers who are also laying wreaths at the Community Hall need not be concerned about finding a front row seat, as their chairs are reserved.
We suggest the following to those able to participate in the parade.
Service clubs or similar groups could delegate members to attend, former cadets and members of 21 Field Engineer Squadron, sons and daughters of veterans, and area youth groups. People may also participate as families, neighbours, or friends.
We stress that ordinary citizens of all ages with no connection to the Legion or military are more than welcome.
Most importantly, we would like to see more young people. Do you have to be an experienced marcher? Absolutely not. Drill commands are given to ensure that the parade remains orderly and dignified, but your presence is the important thing.
Please join us in this tribute to those whose sacrifices have (and continue) to keep our great country free. It takes very little time and means so much.
Parade attendees should arrive at the Legion (73 Hapnot Street) by 9:45 am Wednesday morning, with adults gathering in the downstairs lounge and youth groups in the upstairs hall.
The parade will form up shortly after 10 am and, led by the RCMP, will proceed south on Hapnot to Fourth Avenue (Co-op corner), and then back north on Hill Street past the Cenotaph, with an “eyes right” for the Reviewing Officer and dignitaries, to the Community Hall via First Street for the Legion community service.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided at the Legion after the parade and service – in the upstairs auditorium for youth and the downstairs lounge for adults.
