Trevor Miller The simple answer is no, I don't think they are. The logic behind the claim that they are is too easily muddied by applying it in any other way. Saying they're Flin Flonners because they live nearby, often work here, and shop in our stores could as easily be used to call many of them Cranberry Portage residents, or to call Creighton and Denare Beach residents Flin Flonners, too. Also, if they are, will the city be plowing their roads, collecting their garbage or providing their water or sewer services for the taxes the city will presumably ask them for? Ken Mansell Our Manitoba area cottagers that are not also resident taxpayers of Flin Flon are not really Flin Flonners. But most have strong ties with our city and do support it and treat it as their hometown. They deserve a friendly welcome and do spend time and money on many community activities. Hopefully Manitoba Conservation can work something out to funnel something back to the mother ship before she sinks in a sea of debt. A good analogy was made comparing Flin Flon to bankrupt Detroit. Mayor Fontaine and council must pursue every possible source of income while necessarily cutting back on city spending. Denny Hyndman There are many, I'm sure, who live at the lake who view Flin Flon as their home. I really think that this whole possible annexation has gone the wrong way communication wise. I've heard people claim cottagers object to supporting Flin Flon and vice-versa, and I don't believe that is the truth. The mayor states that there are ways that these neighbours could be contributing _ the city needs help, end of story. A separate truth is that cottagers deserve services. Is it wrong for our mayor to look to all society members within the area to seek support? It's part of being a community. We need to band together as northerners to get more provincial funding here.
