Editor,

Few hands can only go so far! I am writing this letter in response to the one sent by Disappointed in The Reminder on July 6, regarding 2004 Canada Day Celebrations. First, I'd like to applaud the Trout Festival Committee of which are few.

For years now the same few people have been striving to keep the festival going in our community. No, it is not the same as it once was, and I too am disappointed to see the various events slowly drop off.

The sad part is that it's a lot easier to sit back and criticize than to step forward and volunteer to help make it better. Did you realize that this year the festival didn't even have an official secretary, and that not only did the president need to fulfill the duties that come with that title, but also chair two additional events. Where do you suppose these committee members should find the time to personally approach the Legion or any other groups to come forward?

The bottom line is, the enthusiasm is slowly fizzling in the few that remain committed to the festival, and before long it will disappear completely. So if you feel strongly about a particular part of the festival, or of the festival as a whole continuing, then watch for the annual meeting to be advertised sometime in September, and be there! In closing, I'd like to thank the committee which planned and hosted, and invited everyone to share in their Canada Day Celebration at Denare Beach?

Signed

Equally Disappointed: But not in the festival committee.
