All major winter roads operating in Manitoba have been shut down for the season.

The roads have gradually been deemed unsafe for travel since late March. One of the final major winter road links, the Lawford River crossing connecting Highway 373 to Norway House with the road to Oxford House, was deemed unsafe on April 16.

Other roads, including the road link between Highway 10 and Pukatawagan, were shut down earlier. The Pukatawagan ice road has been considered closed since March 28.

Communities connected to the provincial highway system through ice roads will now be accessible either by air or water until next winter.

Every winter, Manitoba Infrastructure operates around 2,200 kilometres of winter roads, connecting communities with no other link to the provincial highway system until spring thaw.
