Universally accessible child-care closer to reality in Manitoba: Premier

Premier Greg Selinger says the Manitoba government is taking steps toward creating a universally accessible child-care system.

Premier Greg Selinger says the Manitoba government is taking steps toward creating a universally accessible child-care system.

Selinger said Tuesday that the province’s plan for child-care includes exploring increased affordability for parents by implementing a subsidy and a sliding scale on child-care fees.

The plan also includes phasing out all fees currently paid by fully subsidized parents, and, starting Sept. 1,
phasing in a provincial wage scale for child-care centre employees.

The province further plans to work with post-secondary institutions to double the number of training opportunities for child-care workers.
