A COVID-19 testing station has opened in Flin Flon.
The station, available for screening and testing (if needed), has been set up at the Flin Flon Community Hall. The station will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday to Friday during the outbreak.
In a statement released March 17, the Northern Health Region (NHR) advised any Flin Flon residents with flu-like symptoms and a relevant travel history to contact the provincial Health Links-Info Santé hotline at 1-888-315-9257 before coming to the testing station.
"If testing is indicated, you will be referred to the appropriate testing site," said the statement.
Stations have also opened up in Thompson (at the Thompson Clinic at Plaza Mall) and The Pas (at Guy Hall).
Shared Health Manitoba has also released an online screening tool to help determine if someone's symptoms demand further treatment.
Eight cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Manitoba as of March 16, none in the north. All eight cases have involved people who have recently travelled into Manitoba.
"Public health officials are strongly advising all Manitobans, including health-care providers, to cancel or postpone any non-essential international travel. They are also recommending all international travellers self-isolate and self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days after returning to Canada," said a provincial government update.
"Work is underway to finalize guidelines for health-care and critical infrastructure workers who return from international travel to address any impacts on essential services. All physicians, health-care providers and support staff returning from international travel must self-identify to their organization or site’s occupational health services."
