Seven more far north east cases reported in Sask., none near Flin Flon, 40 new cases province-wide

Seven more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in far north east Saskatchewan – all of them in the portion of the zone that does not include Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay.

All seven cases were reported in the far north east 1 zone, which includes La Ronge, Air Ronge, Southend, Stanley Mission and other nearby communities. Cases have been reported by the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) in Stanley Mission, Sucker River, La Ronge and Grandmother’s Bay. LLRIB has instituted tight restrictions in communities that are part of the band, on reserves and at band-owned and operated businesses and facilities.

The region currently has 23 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 as of Oct. 16.

Cases were reported Friday in nine Saskatchewan regions – north central (eight), Saskatoon (seven), Regina (seven), far north west (six), central east (two), central west (one), north west (one) and south central (one).

The province now has 299 active cases of COVID-19. Nine people are in hospital, with two in intensive care, due to COVID-19.

Several of the new cases are tied to previous cases connected to the Full Gospel Outreach outbreak in Prince Albert.

“The most recent summary data available indicates that 79 individuals in multiple communities have tested positive for COVID-19... linked to the gospel worship event in Prince Albert, including case contacts of attendees,” reads the Oct. 16 provincial report.

“At least 250 contacts have been part of the contact investigation relative to this superspreader event.”

Of the 40 cases announced Oct. 16, 23 were descibed as “linked to close contacts/gatherings”, including people who have been exposed to previous outbreaks and the people those people have been in contact with.
