A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared for the Flin Flon Personal Care Home.

The home was one of two new outbreaks announced by the provincial government April 16 - a second COVID-19 outbreak was announced at Winnipeg's Middlechurch Personal Care Home.

The number of cases at the Flin Flon PCH is currently unknown - The Reminder has reached out to the Northern Health Region (NHR) for comment on the outbreak. According to provincial guidelines, an outbreak is declared for a long-term care home or personal care home if a staff member or resident tests positive for COVID-19.

A new pair of possible exposures to the B.1.1.7 variant of concern were reported in the NHR April 16 - a person who was at the Thompson Walmart between 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. April 6 and at the Thompson Safeway between 2 p.m.-3 p.m. April 10 has since tested positive for the B.1.1.7 variant.  Any person who attended the two stores during those times who has developed possible COVID-19 symptoms is asked to immediately self isolate and go for a COVID-19 test.

Out of the 127 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Manitoba Friday, 29 were found in the north, including two new cases in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon health district. The district currently has 21 active cases of COVID-19.
