Money raised by Flin Flon Pride will be going toward a pair of lucky students, starting as early as June of this year.

Two bursaries, each valued at around $1,000, will be awarded by Flin Flon Pride to students graduating from Hapnot Collegiate and Creighton Community School.

Pride committee chair Jordana Oulette said the committee raised the money through their Christmas fundraising events and merchandise sales.

“We sold seasonal items - Christmas ornaments and toques,” Oulette said.

“We’re always going to be fundraising. We’ve got enough for this year, but we’re always going to be fundraising for future years and for our event.”

The Pride committee has not reached out yet to the Flin Flon School Division or the Creighton School Division, choosing to hammer out final details and wait for the divisions to finish constructing their 2020 budgets. The exact criteria for qualifying for the bursary are not yet known and will be known further at Pride’s next committee meeting.

“We haven’t really sat down. Our first Pride meeting is coming up in February and we haven’t really done anything since our Christmas fundraiser,” said Oulette.

Oulette said several possible changes are on the table for Pride this year, including adding new events and possibly moving the event earlier in the summer.

“We’re totally revamping everything this year,” she said.

“We just don’t want people getting sick of us or think ‘We’ve been to Pride before, we don’t need to go again.’ Increasing attendance at the parade was a big thing.”
