Local poets have the opportunity to work with one of the leading voices in this creative form of expression.
George Elliott Clarke is scheduled to host a poetry workshop and a reading on Thursday, July 20 at the Flin Flon Public Library. Both events are free to attend.
Clarke, the current Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate, will begin with a workshop to help poets generate material for their poems.
The workshop will run from 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm. Participants are asked to bring a paper and pen or screen and keyboard.
At 7 pm, Clarke will present a reading as part of the local Ore Samples writers’ series.
An Ore Samples biography of Clarke calls him “a revered wordsmith” and noted artist in the mediums of poetry, essays, screenplays, fiction, drama and song.
A recipient of multiple prestigious awards for his work, Clarke currently teaches African-Canadian literature at the University of Toronto.
He holds eight honorary doctorates and has been appointed to the Order of Canada.
