A total of 68 combined calls came in during the month of January from all four communities served by Creighton RCMP – Creighton, Denare Beach, the Amisk Lake reserve and Sturgeon Landing, according to a series of monthly reports obtained by The Reminder.

Creighton RCMP responded to 27 calls within Creighton, including a mischief report of two intoxicated people at a local restaurant.

An argument between the two escalated to a food fight, with food being thrown and plates being smashed. Police were called and the two people were arrested, but the restaurant’s owner did not press charges, only wanting the parties involved to pay damages for the items they broke.

One charge was laid in an incident of domestic violence. The two parties came to the detachment together to report they had fought, with RCMP determining that the instance qualified as a domestic violence matter.

Two counts of uttering threats were issued against two youths who allegedly made threats toward Creighton Community School. Charges were not initially filed, but the pair were charged after a second instance.

A vehicle was stolen in Creighton in January. It was later recovered in Pelican Narrows.

Calls received from Denare Beach included a report of a missing person.

“The detachment engaged in a large search effort,” reads the report.

The person was later found in a home that had previously been visited by RCMP. According to the report, the missing person had been at the home the whole time and the occupant of the home had lied to RCMP about their whereabouts.

Five mischief calls were responded to in Denare Beach, three of which involved intoxicated people.

Charges were laid in an assault later deemed to be domestic in nature.

At Amisk Lake, 22 calls were reported, including five assaults. Charges were laid in two of the calls.

A sudden death was reported to RCMP – officers have deemed the death “not suspicious.”

The report said that crime issues on the reserve are concentrated to a small area.

“Two houses in Denare Beach account for the majority of the issues and alcohol was a factor in each reported issue,” reads the report.

Only one call was reported from Sturgeon Landing, a request for assistance from Child and Family Services in moving children into care. No issues were reported with the call.

The RCMP stated that one target from this year’s annual performance plan (APP) is unlikely to be met. Last April, the detachment set a goal of conducting 1,000 curfew checks in Creighton over the next year. So far, with a month and a half left under the APP, only 623 checks have been conducted.

While the numbers this year have not matched up, RCMP state there’s a good reason why – fewer known offenders are now living in Creighton.

“Proactive policing has significantly reduced the number of prolific offenders in the area. Property crime has virtually dropped off from the statistics,” reads report.
