Flin Flon players have earned spots on some of northern Manitoba’s top minor hockey teams.

Six Flin Flon players made the pre-season roster for the Norman Northstars, which held their camp in Thompson August 23-25. A team in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League (MU18HL), the Northstars feature some of the best under-18 players in northern Manitoba.

Defenseman Jordan Pfoh, forwards Morgan Beauchamp, Morgan Daneliuk, Blake Lahonen, and Derek Koivisto and goalie Rylan Potkonjak were named to the team.

Potkonjak will be relied upon in net, after winning rookie of the year honours for the Northstars last season. Pfoh also walked away with end of season hardware last year, taking home both defensive player of the year and most dedicated player honours.

Beauchamp, Daneliuk and Lahonen were also named to the team last year.

Most of the Flin Flon players named to the Northstars took part in this year’s Flin Flon Bomber camp.

The Flin Flon contingent on the Northstars will be joined by two players from The Pas, two players from Cross Lake and one player each from Split Lake, Easterville and Norway House, along with 11 players from Thompson.

Five Flin Flon minor hockey players will also join the Norman Wolves bantam AAA roster after winning spots during their weekend camp August 23-25. Joey Lies, Paxton Moore, Nole Pearson, Logan Salamondra and Connor Slugoski earned spots playing with the Wolves this season. Bantam hockey players are 13 and 14 years old – the Norman AAA team is the highest level they can play with in the north.

The five Flin Flon players are joined by seven players from Thompson, five from The Pas and two from Norway House.

The Wolves will travel over 10,000 kilometres during the season according to their Facebook page. The team splits home games between Thompson and Flin Flon, travelling throughout Manitoba for away games.
