Man arrested, faces second-degree murder charge after Pukatawagan death

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after the death of a woman in Pukatawagan last week. The woman was found dead in a wooded area June 26 around 8 p.m. and reported to Pukatawagan RCMP.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after the death of a woman in Pukatawagan last week.

The woman was found dead in a wooded area June 26 around 8 p.m. and reported to Pukatawagan RCMP. The death was considered suspicious by police. Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services began investigating the death, along with local RCMP.

RCMP identified a suspect and made an arrest June 29. August Thunder Caribou, 22 years old from Pukatawagan, has been arrested and faces a charge of second-degree murder. He was scheduled to make his first appearance in The Pas Provincial Court June 30.

The name of the deceased has not been released. It is the second homicide in the community this year. Two people were arrested in relation to the death of a 23-year-old man in Pukatawagan Jan. 4.

The investigation is ongoing.
