Hockey is Flin Flon's passion in the winter, but fishing takes over in the summer. Case in point was the 17th Annual Leo Lavoie Trout Tournament, held over the weekend on Lake Athapap. "We had a very good day fishing today," organizer Dallas Mymko told the crowd during the closing ceremonies at the Lavoie family cabin. "It was a great weekend. The weather was perfect!" shouted one member of the crowd. The two-day tournament featured 36 entries from anglers as young as 13 and as old as 86. The duos with the most combined inches of fish caught took home cash prizes. Other prizes were handed out in categories such as smallest entry. As they boarded their boats to leave following the awards ceremony, one could sense the fishers' anticipation of returning next year to catch the one that got away. Here are the top seven finishers: 1st - Bob Gummerson and Luc Grenier (235 combined inches) 2nd - Randy and Suzie Boychuk (226.5) 3rd - S. Borley and D. Lindsay (226.5) 4th - Leon and Sheldon Wiebe (220.5) 5th - Joe Hancock and Blayne Hyska (211.5) 6th - Louis Hogue and Ray Quinnelle (211) 7th - Leigh Johnston and Brady Fidierchuk (210.5)
