A publisher is blaming an undisclosed “system error” after Creighton and Denare Beach were almost entirely excluded from the latest northern Manitoba phone book.

The recently released 2016-17 edition of the Northern Lights Region telephone directory includes just 18 numbers in the two communities. Last year there were nearly 1,000 listings.

“A system error resulted in the omission of a number of listings from the Creighton, SK section of the Northern Lights, MB directory,” Fiona Story, director of public relations and corporate communications for publisher Yellow Pages, said in an email to The Reminder.

Story did not elaborate on how the error occurred or why those particular 18 listings, all residential numbers, ended up in the book.

The mishap comes three years after the 2013-14 regional phone book failed to list all businesses and government agencies in Creighton and Denare Beach.

Story did not say whether the two communities’ location in Saskatchewan made them particularly susceptible to errors. No other non-Manitoba communities are included in the directory; Creighton and Denare Beach are because of their close proximity to Flin Flon.

Yellow Pages has rectified the problem for future editions of the phone book, Story said, but she did not indicate this year’s edition would be reprinted.

She said full listings for Creighton and Denare Beach are available online at YP.ca and Canada411.ca.
