Hudbay has announced a change in the company’s executive structure, bringing in a new face as the company’s chief financial officer (CFO) and senior vice president.

Steve Douglas was named as Hudbay’s newest appointee by the company June 11, taking over the CFO position from interim officer Eugene Lei.

Before joining Hudbay, Douglas was involved in finance and potash mining, notably serving as senior vice president and CFO with fertilizer company Agrium from 2014-2017 and as an executive vice president and chief integration officer at Nutrien until January 2019. Douglas helped oversee the merger of Agrium and PotashCorp in 2017, forming Nutrien. The company operates six potash mines in Saskatchewan.

Douglas also worked with Brookfield Asset Management, Brookfield Property Partners, Noranda Inc., Falconbridge and Ernst and Young before heading down the fertilizer and potash route.

"We are very pleased to have Steve join our executive team at Hudbay,” said Hudbay president and CEO Peter Kukielski in a press release.

"He is an experienced and successful CFO with a track record of driving business opportunities to achieve significant growth and value. Based on our prior experience together and on Steve’s pedigree and extensive experience, I believe Steve is an outstanding fit for the role and we welcome his expertise as we execute on our growth initiatives to take Hudbay to the next level."

Douglas will take over the new role June 30.
