The final two spring Flin Flon Luncheons were held at the Viscount Gort Hotel in Winnipeg on Friday, April 5th and Friday, May 3rd. There were 63 guests in April and 83 guests in May. There are lots of newcomers to our gatherings and it is a pleasure to see new “retirees” join our ranks.
In April, we had some first time visitors, including Lana Hood, Bonnie Berry and Juanita and Greg Giesbrecht. In May, our first time visitors were Valerie Plummer, Laurel Gilmore (Calgary), Ted St. Godard and Ellen Ledieu (Flin Flon).
In April, we congratulated Moira and Lloyd Frankenburger on their grandson’s entry into the National Hockey League. Taro Hirose was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings and got five points in his first five games.
Then in May, we found out that Jack Turner is being inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame this October, along with his teammates from the Flin Flon Warriors 1965-1966 team, the Canadian Intermediate Hockey Champions. Congratulations, Captain Jack.
