Flin Flon’s domination of the SnoRiders Sledtown Showdown has continued in the second round of this year’s online vote, while vote campaigns elsewhere have created an all-northern provincial final four.
Flin Flon held a commanding lead in the second round of the contest over Pinawa, winning with 81 per cent of the vote – 1079 to 260.
All four northern locations in the poll have advanced to the second round and will create an all-northern third round.
Snow Lake led Beausejour 978 votes to 212, while The Pas had 566 votes to Gimli’s 252 in their matchup. Thompson, faced off with Swan Valley, was the northern locale in the tightest race but snuck through with a narrow 52 per cent of the vote - 633 votes cast to 590.
The winning community of the Manitoba vote will be entered into another round of voting against the winning community of similar votes taking place for Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. locales.
Regional rivalries will be put to the test in the semifinals. Flin Flon currently faces Snow Lake, while Thompson and The Pas have been pitted against each other. Flin Flon is currently ahead 1,201 votes to 812, good enough for 60 per cent of the total vote as of Jan. 13. Thompson holds a narrow lead over The Pas - 851 votes to 827.
Last year, Flin Flon won the Manitoba vote and narrowly lost the western Canadian vote to Tumbler Ridge, B.C, ending in second by fewer than 300 votes with more than 100,000 individual votes cast.
The winning community of the region-wide vote will receive a trophy from SnoRiders and a series of feature articles in the magazine published later in 2020.
The third round of voting continues until Jan. 19. Votes can be cast once per day per device at snoriderswest.com.
