1. Why are you running for council? What are your qualifications? Do you have experience with public office?

With my past involvement on the school board, one term as city councillor, along with representing the Flin Flon Recycling Center, the snowmobile club, hockey, the Flin Flon Trout Festival and the Flin Flon Arts Council... there still can be a vibrant life!

2. What would you wish to address with local government if elected?

My platform is diversity with dignity - it is Flin Flon’s best virtue. Dedication is what the whole area requires. Dogs can be an issue or an asset. Drugs of one's choice is freedom of choice.

3. What are your policies on local finances and taxation?

I will want to keep the mill rate affordable to all the residents and businesses.

4. What do you believe should be the City’s priorities on infrastructure?

New priorities to the strategic plan may need restructuring or to be put on hold.

5. Hudbay is currently planning to shut down most of its operations within Flin Flon within the next two years. As a candidate, how does this affect your platform and what plan do you have regarding the Hudbay closure?

The threat of Hudbay changing their way of doing things, I trust, will be done as early as possible and fairly as possible. People with a good work ethic, trade, and education, I trust in their resiliency.

6. The City is planning several capital spending projects in the coming years, including a replacement for the Flin Flon Aqua Centre. What stance do you hold on these projects?

I will support having a swimming pool.

7. What is your plan for Flin Flon’s future?

After the pandemic, Flin Flon has the individuals, along with council, to make this whole area a desirable place to want to live.

8. How do you plan on working with nearby communities and councils?

There are 12,000 residents in our immediate area. Commerce is a necessity. Cranberry Portage, Creighton, Denare Beach, outlying areas... the Saskatchewan border has to become an asset.

9. What are your thoughts on your opponents?

Thanks to all of the five people for letting your name stand. Each one of us brings something different to the council.

10. In 25 words or less - what is your elevator pitch for undecided voters?

Vote! We all need to be positive ambassadors.

11. What question do you wish we would have asked?

(editor’s note: the candidate did not provide an answer for this question.)

Five people have put their names forward for the vacant seat on Flin Flon’s city council. The Reminder has sent each of those candidates a list of 11 questions with specific rules and structures, designed to show the public their stances on several local subjects.

Each candidate was tasked with providing answers of 60 words or less - answers far over that count have been cut off, as per the agreed upon rules. Answers have been edited for spelling, grammar and Canadian Press style, but the content of each answer is as the candidate submitted it.

The answers solely represent the views of the candidates - they do not reflect the views of The Reminder.
