1. Why are you running for council? What are your qualifications and what experience do you have with public office?

I am running for council as I was very encouraged by the outcome of the byelection last fall and was surprised and feel honoured to have come second. In my working career, I was in the public service and feel I have a lot to offer the citizens of Flin Flon if elected - a fresh set of eyes on city council.

2. What are your main priorities as a candidate?

I would like to continue to work on the “Our Community Plan”, which was put together by many who contributed in the community plan process. It is a valuable tool in moving forward as a community as well as working with the surrounding communities.

3. What are your policies on local finances and taxation?

I have no policies on local finances and taxation. I would like to learn more about how this is done and know there are many factors which come into play in planning budgets and finances in organizations and would like to learn how this works at the municipal level. I worked with governance in my employment with the Province of Manitoba.

4. What do you believe should be the City’s priorities on infrastructure?

I believe the City is doing what needs to be done with respect to the infrastructure and long term sustainability. There must be more community consultation as we move out of this pandemic and into the future. There are many factors that have changed in the last year and have to be considered going forward.

5. Hudbay is currently planning to shut down most of its operations within Flin Flon within the next two years. As a candidate, how does this affect your platform and what plans do you have regarding the Hudbay closure?

With respect to the downsizing of the Hudbay operation in Flin Flon, it is my hope that the city council as well as community members, groups, organization, business etc., would be open to working together to formulate ideas going forward in the midst of change. I know the City has done a lot of work with branding, as it encompasses all aspects of Flin Flon and area.

6. The City is currently planning several capital spending projects in the coming years, including a possible replacement for the Flin Flon Aqua Centre. What stance do you hold on these projects?

With respect to the capital spending, I believe it is vital to long term sustainability of a community and enhances the City and surrounding communities. I would like to see a new pool, as well as to see all of our facilities and infrastructure maintained for the future of the community.

7. What is your plan for Flin Flon’s future?

I don’t have a “plan” for the future. It is my hope that people stay positive and work together as a community. I have always enjoyed living and working in this community. I know there are groups and organizations working on various projects that will benefit and are benefitting this community.

8. How do you plan on working with nearby communities and councils?

I am very open to working with other northern communities and councils. I believe we learn from one another and can prosper from sharing ideas and sharing goods and services - working and looking forward, together.

9. What are your thoughts on your opponents?

I wish all the candidates well and thank them for putting their names forward for the election.

10. How do you plan to promote Flin Flon for business owners, tourists or other entities outside the community?

I would promote Flin Flon business owners and tourists by working with council to formulate a plan to enhance and encourage them.

11. What matters involving Flin Flon do you wish to bring to the provincial or federal government?

I believe that working with council to address matters outside the jurisdiction of the municipality would be dealt with by consensus and as a team effort of the city council.

12. In 30 words or less - what is your elevator pitch for undecided voters?

I feel I know the people of Flin Flon. I would serve and do a good job for the citizens to the best of my ability and hope people get back out to vote.

13. What question do you wish we would have asked?

“Why do you live in Flin Flon, and what do you like about Flin Flon as your home?”
